Retirement Dorothy Adams

Monday, 12 December 2011 13:28

Our staff member Dorothy Adams will retire after 27 years of employment at Centenary Queen Square Care Centers. If you like to say goodbye to Dorothy you are invited to join us on December 20th in the Adult Center. For more information please contact Marcia Kirkwood at 693 8080. Dorothy has seen many children come back with their own children and shared good stories from the past. As a mother of 6 children herself, Dorothy has implemented many of her strong values to the center which has certainly have been a great benefit to the children in her care. We got to know Dorothy as a very supportive co-worker and team leader and Dorothy has become a member of the Centenary family and we will certainly miss her!

Child Development

Individual growth means community growth.

In 1982, the Child Development Centre opened its doors to provide a hospitable and caring environment for pre-school children. The play based day care setting provides programs for children 15 months to 5 years of age.

Many children attending the centre come from single parent families, where parents are often experiencing high levels of stress as they struggle to support themselves and their families.

Our centre supports each child and his/her family with an enriched program so the child can start school with the opportunity to function at her or his optimum level of ability.

Our warm family atmosphere helps children feel comfortable. Our close staff-to-child ratio allows constant staff evaluation of children’s capabilities and one-on-one attention.

Adult Care Center

Since 1977, the Adult Care Centre has been providing a warm, friendly atmosphere for disabled and/or elderly guests. It provides companionship, social activities and learning opportunities for adults whose health prevents independent outings and activities.

The centre also allows the caregiver time to pursue errands or personal interests and to renew their own resources.

By encouraging mutual caring and respect for one another, the centre attempts to:

1. Emphasize the integrity and worth of each individual
2. Kindle and promote the discovery, or rediscovery of each person’s abilities to nurture one another.

Guests attending the Adult Care Centre participate in a wide variety of activities including arts, crafts, games, modified exercise and friendly conversation.

A hot, nutritionally balanced meal is provided for lunch, as well as a mid afternoon “tea time” snack.

Operating Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, the centre is bustling with activity. People are welcome each day or they may choose to attend only once or twice per week.

The fully trained and experienced staff and volunteers at the centre make sure everyone feels comfortable and that the appropriate care is given.
